Champion made partner in Alberta Health and Safety group
Minister Goudreau announced the partnership during an event at the historic Wainwright
Hotel in Calgary. The audience included more than 70 industry partners, representing safety
associations, employers, educational institutes, and labor groups.
The government-led Partnerships in Health and Safety group is an example
of employers putting the practice of health and safety in place.
“Your hard work and dedication to the program is paying off,” Goudreau told partners, citing the provincial
trend of fewer incidents and lower rates of lost-time claims and disabling injury claims in the province despite
a growing workforce.
Champion, one of three organizations to become a partner, qualified as an
industry sector leader. The presenter said Champion showed commitment to raising
the standards of worker health and safety in its industry by being an active
partner in injury reduction and working to develop effective health and safety
management systems.
BP Canada Energy Company, ConocoPhillips Canada Limited, Devon Canada
Corporation, Imperial Oil Resources, Shell Canada Energy, Suncor Energy Services
Inc., and Syncrude Canada Ltd. are partners in the group.
Champion’s Canadian Business Unit has earned the Work Safe Alberta Best Safety
Performer Award for six consecutive years.
